First Time Setup
When using Marso for the first time, a number of settings must be initially set.
The Settings window can be accessed by going to File → Settings
You should see your license key at the top of the settings window, as well as the Activation status: Active
Marso Settings
Paths
Marso requires creating two folders on secondary storage in order to function:
Scratch Directory
Intermediary Files will be written here during processing, and deleted afterwards
Fast R/W speeds are highly recommended, and available space ~256GB
Output Directory
Results will be written here, in a subfolder for each subject
Storage speeds are not as important, can be a network share
Click the arrows to open an explorer selection window for each required directory.
Marso will create the directory if it doesn’t already exist.
Calibration Presets
Before processing, you will need to create calibration presets to describe your capture system to Marso.
This should only need to be done once for a Camera and Light, as long as the exposure settings are not modified.
Exposure Preset
To create an exposure preset, you will need to capture a photo of a calibration grey card under similar conditions to how you will capture any subjects. See: Capturing a Calibration Image
Once you have this image you can create an exposure preset.
Open the Exposure Parameters dialog from Settings
Any existing presets will be shown on the left.
Click ‘New’ to create a new preset
Enter the information collected when capturing the image.
Click Create to launch the
Exposure Calibration tool.

Click and drag to create a selection box on the image. Select the region corresponding to the grey value given.
Press Enter to Confirm the selection.

If you are unable to see the grey card to make a selection, use the hotkeys to adjust the brightness. W/S - Key to make the preview image brighter or darker. This is just for preview purposes and does not affect the final calibration. |
The calibration tool will then run in the background. This may take up to 10 minutes depending on your system and the resolution of your input images.
When it is complete the adjusted image will be shown for confirmation.
After accepting the adjusted image you will be returned to Marso, with the new exposure preset visible in the list.
Light System Preset
The ‘Light System’ preset describes the location of you light(s) relative to the camera sensor.
If you have multiple lights, the Light System preset also describes the order that lights will be triggered in when capturing.
Open the Light Systems Dialog from Settings
The top left frame is used to create new light systems.
Light position distances should be specified in meters.
The co-ordinate system is
Y-up (see Diagram).
Enter the positions for the first light, then click ‘Add’ to create a light in the new system.
Repeat for all lights if you have Multiple Lights.
Give the new Light System Preset a descriptive name, and click ‘Save’.
The new Light System Preset will appear on the right side, and can be viewed by selecting it.
